Sound Foundations: A Study Investigating Vocal Hygiene Behaviors across Age and Experience
Abstract: Vocal hygiene involves both active and passive behaviors that are crucial for maintaining vocal health. This study investigates the relationship between vocal hygiene habits, age, years of singing experience, and self-reported voice symptoms among high-level vocal performers. Results reveal correlations between age, years of singing experience, and the frequency of certain vocal hygiene behaviors, and differences in vocal hygiene habits between individuals with and without self-reported voice problems. These results underscore the need for targeted education on vocal health throughout vocal training curricula to support the long-term vocal health and performance potential.
