Nonverbal Dynamics: What Role Could They Have in Voice Pedagogy?
Abstract: In this article, the potential implications of nonverbal dynamics (especially synchrony) in voice pedagogy are discussed. Synchrony is a phenomenon mainly studied in psychotherapy, parenting, and couples, but it is plausible that it can have implications in voice teaching. When humans interact—particularly in a dyadic dynamic with a specific purpose—behavioral and physiological “syncing” may occur. The exact details and benefits of these phenomena are still under investigation. Understanding how this can manifest in voice teaching could inform and possibly benefit the teacher–student relationship.
