$\mu$-Raman/Luminescence Spectroscopy of Ultrafast Laser Inscribed Waveguides in Er3+:LiYF4 for Refractive Index Engineering

Ultrafast-laser inscription (ULI) has emerged as a powerful technique for three-dimensional flexible micro-scale modifications of refractive index and has been successfully employed in laser gain media to realize waveguide (WG) lasers. Abstract

Ultrafast-laser inscription (ULI) has emerged as a powerful technique for three-dimensional flexible micro-scale modifications of refractive index and has been successfully employed in laser gain media to realize waveguide (WG) lasers. For efficient pump and laser mode guiding, it is critical to recognize the induced refractive index changes associated with local lattice stresses and defects, depending on the material <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$I$</tex> inscription parameters [1]. We report on the <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\mu$</tex> -spectroscopic analysis of ULI waveguides in a fluoride crystal for <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$3-\mu \mathrm{m}$</tex> waveguide lasers.
