Quantum Emitter Enhancement in Epsilon-Near-Zero Environment

Quantum emitters operating in the telecom regime hold immense potential for advancing quantum technologies, particularly in the development of integrated on-chip quantum devices, as well as in computing and sensing applications. Recent studies have demonstrated significant enhancement in emitters' performance when coupled to an epsilon-near-zero (ENZ) environment. Associated effects include increased spontaneous emission rate in dispersion engineered environment [1]–[4] and improved directionality of radiative antennas due to electric field expulsion [5]–[7].

Abstract

Quantum emitters operating in the telecom regime hold immense potential for advancing quantum technologies, particularly in the development of integrated on-chip quantum devices, as well as in computing and sensing applications. Recent studies have demonstrated significant enhancement in emitters' performance when coupled to an epsilon-near-zero (ENZ) environment. Associated effects include increased spontaneous emission rate in dispersion engineered environment [1]–[4] and improved directionality of radiative antennas due to electric field expulsion [5]–[7].
