Influence of Electromagnetic Torque on Conical Whirl for Rigid Rotor Supported by Elastic Foil Gas Bearings

High-speed permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) serve as crucial components and primary power sources in modern compressor systems, where elastic foil gas bearings have been widely applied. The electromagnetic design of high-speed PMSMs is principally based on classical electromagnetic principles. However, several unique aspects, such as electromagnetic torque and the stability of bearing-rotor systems, require further investigation. Consequently, this study explores how the electromagnetic torque generated by the angle of deflection influences the rigid rotor's conical whirl. It establishes dynamic equations for a rotor supported by elastic foil gas bearings, integrating electromagnetic torque into the dynamic framework of rotor conical whirl. Through numerical calculations, the impact of electromagnetic torque on this vibration phenomenon is analyzed. The theoretical analysis provided in this research lays the groundwork for future studies on electromechanical coupling dynamics and offers significant insights into enhancing the stability and performance of high-speed PMSMs in challenging applications.
