Topological Synthesis Methodology of Symmetrical Winding Configurations for Multi-phase Pole-Phase Modulation Motors
Pole-phase modulation (PPM) winding layout plays a pivotal role in achieving pole-changing operation of induction motors. Several PPM pole-changing approaches have been demonstrated to enhance starting torque at low speeds while extending the constant power region at high-speed conditions. Conventional research predominantly focuses on pole-changing control models, with insufficient systematic discussion regarding the theoretical foundation and construction methodology of PPM winding layout. Although limited studies have explored design principles for pole-changing systems, their methodological frameworks remain incomplete. This paper proposes a topological synthesis methodology for symmetrical winding configurations in multi-phase PPM motors, prioritizing reduction of terminal count and simplification of inverter complexity. The proposed approach enables systematic generation of PPM schemes ranging from sophisticated to simplified architectures, thereby establishing a novel design paradigm for pole-changing systems. Validation through finite element analysis (FEA) confirms the electromagnetic performance of derived configurations, demonstrating the efficacy of the topological synthesis method.
