Human Drugs & Veterinary Drugs - A Cost Comparison
Prior research has indicated that veterinary drugs are generally more affordable than human prescription equivalents. However, the costs of drugs from newer online pharmacy options, such as Cost Plus Drugs and DiRx, have not been compared to their veterinary analogs. In this study, our aim was to build on previous research by offering an updated comparison of veterinary drug costs with human pharmacy equivalents. Our findings revealed that home-delivery human pharmaceutical alternatives consistently outperformed other veterinary and human retail providers in normalized drug cost per unit. These results demonstrate that home-delivery pharmaceutical services offer more affordable options and address the high cost of human medications compared to equivalent veterinary medications. This represents a step forward in developing a solution to reduce healthcare expenditures and pharmaceutical costs.
