PERAN ANTIOKSIDAN PADA MELASMA
Melasma is an acquired hypermelanotic disorder, typically in women with darker skin types. A number of trigger factors induce melasma, including genetics, ultraviolet (UV) exposure, and female sex hormones. The pathophysiology of melasma is not limited to melanocytes; current research indicates that keratinocytes, mast cells, aberrant gene regulation, neovascularization, and basement membrane disruption interact. Ultraviolet light as the primary causative agent is believed to trigger the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) via encouraging melanogenesis and activating inducible nitric oxide. Melasma is hard to treat and prone to returning after treatment because of its complicated pathophysiology. Antioxidants have been utilized in the treatment of melasma to reduce UV-induced melanogenesis since they are ROS scavengers and generation inhibitors.
