Polymer-Stabilized Liquid Crystal Viewing Angle Controller Based on Hybrid Alignment Nematic Cells
We report a polymer-stabilized liquid crystal viewing angle controller (PSLC-VAC) based on a hybrid alignment nematic (HAN) cell. By filling a mixture of nematic liquid crystal and polymer monomer into the HAN cell and curing it with ultraviolet light under a narrow-viewing-angle biasing voltage, the fabricated PSLC-VAC maintains a narrow viewing angle at zero voltage and switches to a wide viewing angle under high voltage. Unlike prior studies, this device not only achieves a small antipeeping angle and minimal light leakage at large polar angles but also exhibits a thin and lightweight architecture. The reverse stacking of two PSLC-VAC cells further reduces the antipeeping angle, while the orthogonal orientation of the stacked HAN cells allows for independent narrow and wide viewing angle switching in both horizontal and vertical directions. These features expand the application scope of PSLC-VAC, demonstrating its promising potential in automotive displays, laptops, and other devices requiring dynamic viewing angle regulation.
