Effect of Cobalt co-doping on Ionic Conductivity of Coy Gdx-y Ce1-x O2-δ and CoyNd x-y Ce 1-xO 2-δ (y = 0.05 and 0.1 mol%) Nanocomposites Synthesized by EDTA-Glycol method

Cobalt co-doped ceria-based samples with composition of CoyGdx-yCe1-xO2-δ and CoyNdx-y Ce1-xO2-δ (y = 0.05 and 0.1 mol%), have been prepared by EDTA-Glycol method and characterized to explore their use as a solid electrolyte material. Crystal structure, microstructure, and ionic conductivity have been characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and impedance spectroscopy respectively. All the compositions have been found to be single phase with average crystallite size between 18-32 nm. Density of all the compositions is more than 97.50% of the theoretical value for all the doped and co-doped compositions. Results show that the samples cobalt co-doped exhibit higher ionic conductivity than the samples singly doped with Gd and Nd ions. At 600°C, the sample Co0.1Gd0.1Ce0.8O2-δ and Co0.05Nd0.15Ce0.8O2-δ exhibits maximum total conductivity 0.0166 Scm-1 and 0.0134 Scm-1 respectively.
