The Essential Role of Credentialed Nutrition and Dietetics Practitioners in Interprofessional Approaches to Malnutrition and Advancing Health Equity

Identifying malnutrition is critical to improving public health and advancing health equity by ensuring that all populations, regardless of background or care setting, have access to high-quality, evidence-based nutrition care. Credentialed nutrition and dietetics practitioners in clinical and community care settings play a key role in identifying the presence of malnutrition and food insecurity. Working with the interprofessional team, registered dietitian nutritionists (RDNs), in collaboration with nutrition and dietetics technicians, registered (NDTRs), implement nutrition interventions and develop person-centered care plans to address risk or presence of malnutrition and challenges with food access, ultimately improving health outcomes and reducing health disparities.
