OPTIMIZATION OF DRY SLIDING WEAR CHARACTERSTICS OF Al-7075 AND PEANUT HUSK BIOMASS GREEN SYNTHESIZED SiC PARTICLE REINFORCED METAL MATRIX COMPOSITES BY STIR CASTING TECHNIQUE

The current investigation focuses on the tribological properties of a novel metal matrix composite (MMC) with Al 7075 as the base metal and green synthesized silicon carbide (SiC) ceramic particle as reinforcement. The SiC fine particles of 5[Formula: see text] [Formula: see text]m were successfully synthesized from waste peanut husk biomass via thermochemical method. The SEM and XRD plots confirm that the particles are in spherical shape and have high purity. The composites were prepared via stir casting technique by varying the silicon carbide % as 3, 6, and 9. The Taguchi L27 orthogonal array was used, with signal-to-noise ratios as low as possible. The Pin-on-Disc tribometer was used to conduct wear testing, and the results were analyzed. The operational framework was improved, and an analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to study the impact of wear parameters on the pin of aluminum metal matrix composites. According to Taguchi’s study, the best parameters for a lower wear rate are 40[Formula: see text]N, 0.84[Formula: see text]m/s, and 9% SiC reinforcement. The best parameters for coefficient of friction were discovered to be 40[Formula: see text]N, 1.24[Formula: see text]m/s, and 9% reinforcement. The confirmation test revealed that the inaccuracy associated with dry sliding wear of composite with a combination of optimal parameter A2B1C2 for wear rate and optimal parameter A2B1C2 for coefficient of friction is 7.87% for wear rate and 6.38% for coefficient of friction. According to the optimization, the applied load (59.05%) has the greatest statistical impact on wear rate, followed by sliding speed (29.13%) and the weight percentage of SiC (6.29%). This present study gives an insight about the overall efficient way of utilizing the reinforcement to the composite and reported the best overall wear behavior outcomes from the composite. Thus, it could be useful to the researchers and industrialists to make most efficient aluminum-based metal matrix composites for various technological applications.
