Industry 4.0 Technologies and Lean Office: New possibilities to Smart Office

This article investigates the convergence of Industry 4.0 technologies and Lean Office principles within administrative contexts. It begins by contextualizing the evolving market landscape shaped by advanced technologies like IoT, big data, machine learning, and AI, emphasizing the imperative for organizations to adapt for operational excellence. Despite a paucity of literature focusing on administrative sectors compared to production processes, the study identifies a critical gap, prompting an exploration into aligning Industry 4.0 technologies with Lean principles. Through an exploratory methodology comprising a systematic literature review, the research proposes a model associating Industry 4.0 technologies with Lean Office practices to optimize administrative support sectors, thereby conceptualizing the Smart Office. Findings underscore the significance of bridging academia and industry to facilitate technology adoption and enhance lean practices in administrative settings. Notably, technologies such as cloud computing and AI are highlighted for their support of Lean practices, with further exploration warranted for emerging technologies' applicability in advancing the Smart Office concept. The study concludes by advocating ongoing research and technological integration to drive efficiency, productivity, and customer-centricity in administrative environments. Overall, the article contributes valuable insights to the scholarly discourse on integrating Industry 4.0 and Lean principles, offering practical implications for practitioners and avenues for future research exploration.
