Fault-tolerant Microcontroller Chip with Controlled Degradation: Models of Failures, Bootloader-based Reconfiguration and Dependability Assessment

Possibility of maintaining of workability of hardware components as part of elements of a smart home and Internet of Things (IoT) with reconfiguration after detection of fault is considered. One of the possible methods of the restoring for the system is the use of self-recovery or reconfiguration procedure. It consists from the set of actions included in the system's operation at the installation stage, which are performed automatically with minimal human involvement. This approach involves the use of redundant components of both the architecture and the components of the microcontroller-based system, which avoids of fault of entire system or turns them into the smooth degradation. The reliability model of reconfiguration of the system with use of bootloaders for microcontrollers is proposed. The practical application of reconfiguration of a simple system is provided. The research results allow to describe the process of recovering of such IoT solutions with the possibility of analytical evaluation of reliability parameters of the system.
