A Millimeter-Wave Wideband Injection Locking Frequency Multiplier

In this paper, a millimeter-wave injection-locked frequency multiplier (ILFM) fabricated with 28-nm CMOS technology is put forward. To enhance its performance, an on-chip transformer is employed to inject the second harmonic signal from the resonator's apex. This approach not only broadens the locking range but also successfully averts potential source degradation problems. According to the simulation outcomes, the proposed ILFM exhibits a locking range spanning from 32 GHz to 48 GHz. Its core power consumption is measured at 8 mW, while the core area occupies merely <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\mathbf{0. 0 5 8}$</tex> square millimeters. Additionally, the signal output power surpasses <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\mathbf{0 ~ d B m}$</tex>, demonstrating its excellent signal output capacity.
