Algorithm of Interference Detection in ADS-B Trajectory Data

Nowadays Global Navigation Satelite System (GNSS) is a primary positioning system used on board airplanes in civil aviation. Information signals of GNSS are tensional to interference and unintentional jamming. An Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) technology uses measured coordinates of airplanes to share it with all other participants of air traffic to improve the safety of civil aviation. In the case of GNSS interference action performance of positioning decreases significantly and the accuracy of data provided in ADS-B reduces simultaneously. ADS-B protocol of data transferring uses specific messages of operation status to inform navigation accuracy and integrity category levels. However, many ADS-B systems and databases do not receive and process messages of operational status. In this paper, we consider the detection of interference action based on airplane trajectory data only without information placed in the operational status message. The algorithm uses airplane coordinates velocity and heading angle data. The detection algorithm is based on the maximum posterior probability method to classify data with poor performance and identify interference action. The proposed algorithm has been verified with ADS-B data of real civil air traffic in regions of military jamming equipment action caused by the war in Ukraine.
