Research on an Adaptive Voltage Tracking Method with Variable Step Size in MPPT

In response to the issue that the constant voltage method fails to track the maximum power point owing to its incapability of adapting to alterations in environmental temperature, this paper puts forward a variable step-size adaptive voltage tracking approach, which addresses the problems of tracking failure and the lack of adaptive adjustment associated with the constant voltage method. Within this strategy, the power variation serves as the control variable for the voltage step size. Diverse step size values are employed in accordance with the power variation trend. Subsequent to amplifying the error between the calculated value and the preset voltage, a PI operation is carried out in conjunction with the operating voltage of the photovoltaic panel to realize the regulation of the adaptive voltage. The MATLAB/SIMULINK simulation outcomes signify that the proposed algorithm is capable of continuously and precisely tracking the maximum power point of the photovoltaic panel in real-time, even when sudden changes occur in light intensity or temperature. Moreover, it can effectively suppress the oscillation phenomenon in the vicinity of the MPP. The average error accuracy is less than 0.03%, thereby exhibiting excellent tracking efficacy and steady-state performance.
