Numerical Study on the Effects of Particle Shape and Fluid Rheological Behavior on Material Transport
Abstract Transport of particles is a common topic across various industries, ranging from offshore applications to biomedical sciences. This problem is often complex and requires multiple levels of simplifications and hypotheses. In this work, the effects of particle shape and rheological behavior are analyzed through numerical simulations. This is accomplished by coupling the lattice-Boltzmann and discrete element methods. The simulations reveal that the effects of rheological behavior are generally minor. However, the particle aspect ratio plays a significant role in transport properties, influencing both terminal velocity and lift generation.
