The Generation of Nonlinear Short-Crested Ocean Waves From High Order Spectral Method in a Computational Fluid Dynamics Solver
Abstract The study investigates short-crested wave propagation in a Computational Fluids Dynamics domain (CFD) thanks to the new MPI improvements done on the open-source Grid2Grid wrapper. The latter allows for using nonlinear wave fields pre-computed with the High-Order Spectral (HOS) method in CFD. This library suffered from limitations with directional wave fields that have been overcome. Two test cases are investigated: a 3D focused wave packet in a wave tank and an open-domain short-crested irregular wave field. The results demonstrate good agreement between CFD and original HOS simulations with a reasonable computational cost.
