Numerical Study on the Deep-Sea Implosion Under the Action of Porous Structures Based on Compressible Multiphase Flow Theory

Abstract Ceramic pressure hull arrays are applied to deep-sea underwater vehicles due to their lightweight and high-strength advantages. However, their brittle characteristics pose the risk of implosion chain reactions. The implosion chain reactions are highly destructive and could lead to the destruction of the underwater vehicle. Therefore, it is of great research value to research on pressure hull protection to prevent the occurrence of implosions. This study proposes a numerical simulation method for implosions in deep-sea ceramic pressure hulls under the action of porous structures based on the compressible multiphase flow theory model. The characteristics of implosions are analyzed under the action of orifice plates and porous protective covers. By analyzing the implosion process and the interaction between shock waves and porous structures, it is found that porous structures inhibit implosions by blocking water flow and reflecting shock waves. The porous protective cover weakened the shock wave by over 60%.
