Features of plasmon-polariton waves in guiding structures at optical frequencies

The article presents the results of solutions of dispersion equations of plasmon-polariton waves (PPW) propagating in a round metal nanorad and a round dielectric waveguide with a metallic film. The distributions of the dependences of the electric field components <i>Ez</i> on the radial coordinate for these waves are given. A comparative analysis of the characteristics of the existing PPW in the considered electrodynamic structures is presented. The results are obtained taking into account the actual properties of metals in the optical range.

Abstract

The article presents the results of solutions of dispersion equations of plasmon-polariton waves (PPW) propagating in a round metal nanorad and a round dielectric waveguide with a metallic film. The distributions of the dependences of the electric field components <i>Ez</i> on the radial coordinate for these waves are given. A comparative analysis of the characteristics of the existing PPW in the considered electrodynamic structures is presented. The results are obtained taking into account the actual properties of metals in the optical range.
