Study of deformation of optical device modules for transmitting parameters at low negative temperatures
When constructing fiber-optic transmission lines, the optical cable during the installation and installation process is inevitably subject to external mechanical influences. After completion of construction, especially in regions with significant seasonal temperature fluctuations, residual deformations of optical cable structural elements, in particular modular tubes, may occur. This can lead to changes in communication line parameters and a decrease in the quality of information transmission, as well as an increase in mechanical stress in optical fibers, which ultimately can affect the reduction of the service life of the optical cable. The article discusses a method for determining the increase in attenuation in optical fibers of modular cables at low negative temperatures, which is caused by a decrease in the bending radius of fibers in modular tubes that occurs during the installation of optical couplings. It has been shown that permanent modulus deformation of more than 60% leads to a sharp increase in attenuation in the fibers. The effect of temperature on the increase in attenuation of optical fibers is less significant than the effect of residual deformation of the module.
