Fiber optic electric field intensity sensor based on a Fabry-Perot interferometer with LiNbO3 crystal and addressed fiber Bragg structure for temperature compensation

This article presents an optical electric field (EF) intensity sensor based on a Fabry-Perot interferometer (FPI) utilizing a LiNbO3 (LN) crystal and an addressed fiber Bragg structure (AFBS) for temperature sensing. The Vernier effect, generated by the birefringence of LN, enhances electric field measurement sensitivity without requiring an additional reference resonator. Theoretical results demonstrate that the sensor’s wavelength shift exhibits a linear relationship with the measured electric field. This sensor is proposed as a sensing element for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) designed to detect defects in power lines and power plants.
