THE IMPACT OF DIGITALIZATION ON YOUTH EMPLOYABILITY IN IBADAN NORTH LGA, OYO STATE
This study explores the impact of digitalization on youth employability in Ibadan North Local Government Area (LGA), Oyo State. With rising youth unemployment posing a significant socio-economic challenge in Nigeria, the study investigates how digital technologies and skills contribute to employment opportunities for young people in urban communities. Anchored on the Human Capital Theory, the research examines the extent to which access to digital tools, training, and platforms enhances job readiness and access among the youth. Data were gathered through a structured questionnaire administered to selected youths in Ibadan North LGA, and the results were analyzed using descriptive statistical methods. Findings indicate that while digitalization offers significant potential to bridge the employment gap, many youths still face barriers such as limited access to digital infrastructure, inadequate training, and low digital literacy. The study concludes that targeted investments in digital education and infrastructure are crucial for harnessing the full benefits of digitalization for youth employability. It recommends collaborative efforts among government, private sector, and educational institutions to create an enabling digital environment that supports youth inclusion in the workforce.
