COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF NUTRITIONAL AND MINERAL COMPOSITION OF (SESAME) GROWTH IN LAFIA AND NASARAWA L.G.A IN NASARAWA STATE

Sesame plant seed which grows extensively in Nasarawa State of Nigeria is an important and popular source of edible oil. The seed ranking among the top thirteen oil seeds crops which make up 90% of the world production of edible oil. It creates the awareness of the nutritional value of sesame when consume by human being, it was subjected to analysis of variance to test for significant effect of source, period of sesame quality and 95% confidence limit using the procedure when significant differences where observe. 100g sesame seeds from each location was grounded and analyzed for six proximate traits. Data was record for crude protein, crude fat, crude fibre, ash, moisture content and carbohydrate and mineral content. Proximate analysis done according Officially Methods of Associations Analytical Chemists (AOAC). The results revealed that sesame seed grown in Lafia and Nasarawa contained 6.80% and 6.67% Moisture Content, 6.57% and 6.66% Ash, 19.03% and 19.05 Crude Protein, 41.42% and 41.50% Crude fat, 4.22% and 4.13% Crude fiber and 21.97% and 22.01% Carbohydrate of whole seed sample respectively. sesame seed sample for both location (Lafia and Nasarawa) contained macro minerals (Potassium were 102.50 mg/100g and 103.30 mg/100g, Sodium was 37.73 and 37.57 m100g, Calcium was 277.13 and 281.03 mg/100g, Iron was 3.76 and 3.85 mg/100g, Phosphorus was 161 and 160 mg/100g, manganese had 1.08 and 1.04 mg/100g and then Zinc had 4.45 and 4.30 mg/100g). Sesame seed may be a good source of protein, fiber, iron and zinc, apart from being a good source of edible oil.
