A construção do discurso da agroecologia nos jornais do Movimento dos Trabalhadores Rurais Sem Terra (MST)
This paper analyzes the redirection of the production and organizational strategy of the Agricultural Workers Without Land’s Movement (MST) towards agroecology. This change to a perspective that went beyond the concern with high productivity was observed in the 1990s, however, it was from the 2000s onwards that it gained greater strength within the movement. This work highlights the paths and political contexts involved in this change to an agricultural model that seeks to be viable without negatively affecting the environment and still respects the traditional ways and knowledge of farmers, taking into account regional characteristics. One of the factors highlighted as relevant to this change in the MST was its integration, in 1995, into Via Campesina, an international cooperation network of peasant organizations that fight against capitalist modes of production, combat the actions of agricultural tradings and transgenic seeds. By joining Via Campesina, the movement established itself as a counterpoint to the latifundiary/agribusiness model, against the planting of GMOs, massive production of monocultures and pesticides. The methodology used was a bibliographic review of productions that portray these redirections in the political strategies of the MST's action and production, including the analysis of the repercussions of the subject within the movement based on the Jornal dos Trabalhadores Rurais Sem Terra (Journal of Agricultural Workers Without Land) (1981-2014).
