PARAMETRIC OPTIMIZATION OF AISI H21 MATERIAL USING DESIGN OF EXPERIMENTS FOR ENHANCED PRODUCTION EFFICIENCY.
Delicate turning is a vital process in advanced machining technology for the machining of hardened materials such as alloy steel, titanium, nickel-based alloys, and Inconel, among others. This technique offers several advantages, including increased productivity, micro-surface finish, reduced cycle time, lower processing costs, and improved material properties. This paper focuses on optimizing surface roughness in the delicate turning of AISI H21 tool steel using the Taguchi method. The primary objective of the study was to establish a relationship between cutting parameters such as cutting conditions, spindle speed, feed rate, and depth of cut with surface roughness.Four cutting parameters were examined: cutting conditions, spindle speed, feed rate, and depth of cut.The results indicated that the feed rate and spindle speed significantly affect surface roughness, while the depth of cut primarily influences cycle time. The variation in optimal cutting conditions is preferred across different production and manufacturing industries.A comparison of the effects of process parameters such as spindle speed, feed rate, and depth of cut between dry and wet turning during the turning operation on performance characteristics has been conducted to investigate the impact of dry and wet machining. The process parameters, including spindle speed, feed rate, and depth of cut, were optimized using various optimization techniques to determine the most suitable machining conditions for delicate turning.
