Cloud Computing-Based Fault-Tolerant Control for Recovery From Performance Degradation Caused by Multiplicative Faults

The main objective of this paper is to address the cloud computing-based fault-tolerant control aiming at recovering the system control performance degraded by multiplicative faults. The proposed scheme comprises (i) detection of performance degradation, (ii) estimation of multiplicative faults, and (iii) adaptation of the controller. Firstly, multiplicative faults are modeled as coprime factor uncertainties. A loop performance degradation detector is adopted to evaluate the control performance degradation caused by these faults. Based on the Youla parameterization of all stabilizing controllers and its dual form, the closed-loop system is reconfigured, with residuals signals as the loop input and output signals. On the basis of this configuration, the faults are identified and the controller tuning is performed. To ensure the reliable and efficient computations, the identification and controller tuning algorithms are implemented in a cloud computing server. Considering the cyber-security and data privacy requirements in the context of reliable system operation, the edge-cloud computing configuration is adopted. Finally, an experimental study is conducted to examine the efficiency of the proposed method.
