DEVELOPING A MODEL TO ASSESS CONCRETE PROPERTIES WITH PLASTIC GRANULES AS COARSE AGGREGATES

Owing to the advantages of plastics like cheapness, endurance, lightness, hygiene, and design adaptability, its use is increasing day by day.The negative side of the picture is that it is non-biodegradable product and they cannot be disposed to open environment, because they affect the environment, soil, and subsoil. They release toxic gasses when exposed to open environment and can block sewer lines, drainages, and other waterways.Plastics are also harmful to human health; they may contain or lead to harmful acids. Thus, recycling of plastic is essential in today's condition.Incorporating the waste plastics in concrete by converting them into aggregates is one of the possible solutions to consume them.In the present work utilization of waste Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) granules as partial replacement of coarse aggregate and its mechanical behavior is investigated. The project aims at use of recycled plastic and glass powder in concrete as a partial replacement of Coarse aggregate and Cement. The waste plastic of LDPE is collected and mixed with OPC in varying proportions (0%, 20%, 30%, 40%) as partial replacement of coarse aggregates.Mixes were produced by replacing cement by glass powder in different proportions such as 5%, 10% and 15% for each variation of plastic granuals. The workability, compressive strength and split tensile test for each variant is determined and a mathematical models are developed.Purposes of using above materials are to utilize environmentally unacceptable waste material and to develop a better material mix.
