Pandemic politics in Mexico
Mexico's COVID-19 “fiasco was avoidable”, writes Thomas Legler in The politics of COVID-19 in Mexico: governance meets government. Ranked fifth in the world for the number of deaths, Mexico's COVID-19 statistics present a painful reality. In this collection of essays, Legler and co-authors move beyond blaming solely Mexico's government for the high mortality rate. Instead, they focus on the “nexus of global governance and government”. While they are clear that the Mexican authorities own a portion of the blame, their actions “did not occur in a vacuum”.
