Perempuan Sebagai Objektifikasi dan Komerialisasi dalam Media Sosial TikTok

Abstract. This study is entitled "Women as Objectification and Commercialization in TikTok Social Media (Sara Mills' Discourse Analysis of the Content of the TikTok Account @goodponsel)". The purpose of this study is to analyze how women are represented as objects in TikTok social media content, especially on the @goodponsel account, and to examine the commercialization patterns that reinforce this objectification. This study uses Sara Mills' discourse analysis approach, which highlights the positions of subjects and objects in media narratives and how women are positioned in visual texts. The research data in the form of video content taken from the TikTok account @goodponsel using the purposive sampling method. The analysis process was carried out to explore the representation of women, power relations in the narrative, and commercialization strategies applied to the content. The results of the study revealed that the content on the TikTok account @goodponsel tends to use women as visual objects to attract audience attention and increase commercial appeal. This representation reinforces gender stereotypes that position women as marketing tools. In addition, the commercialization strategy used focuses on the exploitation of women's images, which supports the practice of objectification on social media. The conclusion of this study is that social media such as TikTok can be a platform that strengthens the practice of objectification and commercialization of women if it is not balanced with ethical awareness in content production. These findings are expected to contribute to gender and media studies, as well as increase public awareness of the importance of fair and dignified representation of women on digital platforms.
