Pengaruh Intensitas Membaca Buku "Bicara Itu Ada Seninya" Terhadap Kompetensi Komunikasi

Abstract. This study aims to determine the influence of reading intensity of the book “The Art of Speaking” by Oh Su-hyang on the communication competence of Communication Science students at the Islamic University of Bandung. This research is based on the Reading Engagement Theory by Guthrie et al. (2012) and the Communication Competence Theory by Joseph A. DeVito (2019). The method used is quantitative with a multiple linear regression approach. The sample consisted of 294 respondents selected using a simple random sampling technique. The results show that the variables of reading intensity; frequency, duration, emotional engagement, content comprehension, and application of material significantly affect students' communication competence, with a determination coefficient value of 36.3%. These findings indicate that reading relevant self-development books can improve students’ communication knowledge, skills, and motivation. Abstrak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh intensitas membaca buku Bicara Itu Ada Seninya karya Oh Su-hyang terhadap kompetensi komunikasi mahasiswa Ilmu Komunikasi Universitas Islam Bandung. Penelitian ini dilandasi oleh teori Reading Engagement dari Guthrie et al. (2012) dan teori kompetensi komunikasi dari Joseph A. DeVito (2019). Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kuantitatif dengan pendekatan regresi linear berganda. Sampel berjumlah 294 responden yang diambil menggunakan teknik simple random sampling. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa variabel intensitas membaca yang terdiri dari frekuensi, durasi, keterlibatan emosional, pemahaman isi, dan penerapan materi berpengaruh signifikan terhadap kompetensi komunikasi mahasiswa, dengan nilai koefisien determinasi sebesar 36,3%. Temuan ini membuktikan bahwa kegiatan membaca buku pengembangan diri yang relevan dapat meningkatkan pengetahuan, keterampilan, dan motivasi komunikasi mahasiswa.
