Effects of Structural Parameters on Impact Performance of 3D Printed Double Arrowhead Negative Poisson's Ratio Structures

Negative Poisson's ratio structures, characterized by their exceptional mechanical propertiesincluding high stiffness, superior strength, and outstanding energy absorption capabilitiesexhibit significant potential for widespread application across engineering domains. This study focuses on the design and systematic investigation of a double arrowhead honeycomb negative Poisson's ratio structure. Experimental specimens were fabricated using 3D printing technology, and finite element analysis (FEA) was employed to evaluate the effects of structural parameters on impact performance. The research primarily examines the influences of two key parameters: the half-longitudinal distance (l) and the angle (1)on the structures energy absorption characteristics and impact response behavior. Findings reveal that increasing the half-longitudinal distance effectively mitigates local stress concentration and enhances the structures impact resistance. Meanwhile, variations in the angle 1exert a pronounced effect on the stress distribution and impact force response of the structure. By comparing FEA results with experimental data, the reliability of the finite element model was validated, thereby establishing a theoretical foundation for optimized structural design. This study provides a critical reference for the design and optimization of negative Poisson's ratio structures, holding particular engineering significance for applications in automotive and aerospace industries.
