Extended Abstract: Minding the Communication Gap: A Case Study for Medium Accountability
This ongoing pilot Case Study examines how the international education organization, Gapminder applies standard scientific communication rhetorical moves in electronic media to ameliorate misunderstanding about UN Sustainability Goal progress. Their online platform uses a performative knowledge deficit model to battle the two-sided fallacy structure that can incubate misinformation. This study hypothesizes that a gamified version of the deficit model enables Gapminder to maximize the effectiveness of affordances of electronically networked culture to create a hybrid platform accountability.
