Workshop: Equipping STEM Students with Effective Writing Instruction
This workshop attempts to bridge the gap between liberal-arts trained technical communication teachers and their STEM students. In this workshop, six engineering communication professionals from various liberal arts backgrounds present a sample class that has proven to be effective in helping their STEM students write and revise effective technical documents. The lecture centers on crafting an effective STEM introduction section, and includes a lecture, an in-class exercise, and a group discussion followed by a Q&A. After the workshop, participants will be provided with a packet of technical communication materials for their own use, such as sample lectures, exercises, and STEM writing tips, that the workshop leaders have found to be effective in developing quality communicators in their STEM students.
