Examining Factors Influencing the Intention to Share and Seek Cybersecurity Information
The utilization of information and communication technology across all sectors creates vulnerabilities that can lead to cybercrimes, including social engineering attacks carried out via social media platforms. It is imperative for individuals to actively seek and share information about social engineering to enhance information security awareness among social media users. This study seeks to identify critical factors influencing individuals' intentions to seek and disseminate cybersecurity information. The research adapts the Theory of Planned Behavior to gain a holistic understanding of the determinants affecting the intention-to-seek and intention-to-share cybersecurity-related information on social media. A quantitative methodology employing Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling was utilized for analysis, with data collected from social media users familiar with social engineering techniques. The results indicated that Attitude, Subjective Norm, and Information Sharing Experience have a significant impact on Information Sharing Self-Efficacy. Additionally, Attitude and Subjective Norm significantly influence the Intention to Seek cybersecurity information. These two factors further significantly affect the Intention to Share information regarding cyber threats on social media.
