Reduction of the Magnetic Volume of Three-Phase DC–DC Converter Associated With a Hybridge Rectifier Through Magnetic Integration

This paper presents a method for reducing the overall magnetic volume of two isolated three-phase DC-DC converters by integrating their magnetic structures. The first topology comprises three single-phase transformers on the primary side and three filter inductors on the secondary side. In turn, the second topology structure includes three single-phase transformers, along with an interphase transformer. To accommodate the windings resulting from the integration process, a three-phase magnetic core is employed. Based on experimental data, the proposed integrated topology achieved a reduction in magnetic volume of <inline-formula xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"><tex-math notation="LaTeX">$16.54\,\%$</tex-math></inline-formula> and <inline-formula xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"><tex-math notation="LaTeX">$12.68\,\%$</tex-math></inline-formula> compared to the first and second structures, respectively. Furthermore, to limit the current ripple on the secondary side of the proposed integrated approach, a single filter inductor is incorporated into the converter's output. Experimental results evidence various operational aspects of the proposed integrated topology, including zero-voltage switching (ZVS) and load limits, thermal performance data of the three-phase transformer under steady-state conditions, as well as efficiency curves with both experimental and theoretical data for an active power range of approximately <inline-formula xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"><tex-math notation="LaTeX">$\rm{1}\,kW$</tex-math></inline-formula> to <inline-formula xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"><tex-math notation="LaTeX">$\rm{6}\,kW$</tex-math></inline-formula>.
