Abstract

The first exploration of a 120 m long-distance optical fiber radiation sensor for high-dose monitoring, the radiation sensor composed of a long optical fiber coupled with carbon-doped alumina (Al2O3:C), a photomultiplier tube (PMT), and a 520 nm laser was also investigated for remote environmental radiation monitoring. We evaluated the laser power density, signal integration time in continuous wave optically stimulated luminescence (CW-OSL) mode, repeatability and consistency of radiation dosimetry, fiber transmission characteristics, and thorough bleaching time after each measurement. Under optimized CW-OSL conditions, the remote fiber sensor achieved stable measurements within a dose range of 0.1-5 Gy at a distance of 120 m. The findings indicated that the Al2O3:C optical fiber sensor is suitable for post-accident dose assessment or industrial applications requiring high-dose monitoring.
