Optimum Design of Impingement-Effusion Cooling System Using Differential Evolution Algorithm in 2D Vectoring Nozzle of Turbofan Engine
The turbine engine nozzle inlet temperature is one of the most influential parameters in thrust increases, necessitating efficient techniques to safeguard the nozzle wall. The objective of the present study is to optimize impingement-effusion cooling systems of two dimensions (2D) vectoring nozzle. Two arrangements, featuring impingement cooling holes with circular cross sections, were taken into account. The objective is to determine the optimal design in terms of hole diameter and spacing. To facilitate this, a connection was established between the fluid solver and the optimization code using C programming language. This connection allows for the automatic generation of various geometries to optimize the holes while adhering to specified constraints. Multiobjective optimization was achieved using a differential evolution optimization algorithm. Three geometries are simultaneously analyzed in parallel to expedite the optimization time. The primary goal of the optimization is to maintain a nozzle wall temperature below the maximum allowable level to minimize temperature variations. The results of the multiobjective optimization are presented in the form of a Pareto front, enabling the comprehensive evaluation of the optimal solutions. The cooling mass flow rate per unit area of the nozzle wall was also calculated and compared in order to assess the relative performance of the solutions along the Pareto front.
