Quantum LiDAR based on optical arbitrary waveform generation and photoelectric spectroscopy
Any multichromatic multimode quantum field can be quantum-mechanically measured by an extension of the balanced homodyne detection with an elaborately designed symmetric multifrequency-LO and a spectral analyzer. The measured quantum state can be used to discriminate the received signal photons from the natural clutter photons in a quantum LiDAR. To promote this discrimination, the transmitted probe light can be optimized, and any multichromatic multimode quantum field can be considered for this purpose. As a quantum LiDAR, for simplicity, the essential physics of the receiver and transmitter is discussed in detail, whereas the spatial propagation from the transmitter to the receiver and experimental results are reserved for future publication.
