Uncovering Tacit Data in UX Research: Balancing Depth and Efficiency through Immersive Methods
User research has evolved from contextual inquiry to advanced methods that uncover explicit and tacit data. This paper explores the critical role of tacit data in understanding user behavior and motivations, presenting a tutorial on conducting research that emphasizes depth, immersion, and efficiency. Through a literature review, we outline strategies to integrate diverse methods that account for tacit data, even in agile workflows. The paper concludes by proposing a model for operationalizing user research to benefit practitioners, students, and academics, enabling the design of products that align with user contexts while addressing project constraints.
