The Evolution of Tactical Technical Communication: Digital Resistance and Kenyan Gen Z's Redefinition of Grassroots Activism in the Digital Age

In this article, I argue that the evolution of tactical, technical communication in the digital age has empowered marginalized groups, particularly Kenyan Gen Z youth, to utilize social media platforms for grassroots activism and socio-political mobilization. The study examines how these youth have adapted traditional activism tactics to the digital landscape, challenging established activist frameworks. Through an analysis of their innovative use of digital tools, such as social media and messaging platforms, the article demonstrates how these practices foster local resistance and provide a broader model of digital resistance applicable to other global contexts. By comparing the shift from slum-based activism to digital mobilization, I highlight how digital tools have expanded the reach and impact of Kenyan youth activism, enabling them to influence national conversations and policy. The article argues that the adaptability of tactical, technical communication has become crucial for marginalized communities, enabling them to engage in real-time, interactive, and expansive forms of resistance that challenge dominant power structures and provide new avenues for social change.
