International Cooperation Among CARICOM Countries
Within CARICOM (Caribbean Community and Common Market) international law enforcement cooperation mechanisms, while improving, have remained relatively ineffective at countering the rapid changes in the organized crime landscape. In addition, law enforcement activities still need to be complemented by wider crime prevention and socio-economic measures to effectively prevent and counter transnational crime. The regional update outlines factors behind the Caribbean’s susceptibility to transnational organized crime and explores key regional responses to current trends. It concludes with opportunities for international assistance to support existing regional crime prevention and response initiatives.
