Case report: isolated acute gastric perforation with lesser sac pneumoperitoneum in an infant associated with eventration of diaphragm

Abstract Background Acute gastric perforations beyond the neonatal age are very rare and are associated with a significant morbidity and a high mortality rate. The presence of a left sided eventration of diaphragm may act as a contributory factor leading to volvulus and subsequent ischemic necrosis. Case summary We present an 11-month-old child with an isolated acute gastric perforation and eventration of left hemi-diaphragm with no other significant medical history. Conclusion Acute gastric perforation in infants with eventration of left diaphragm carries a high mortality rate and should be suspected in infants with recurrent non bilious vomiting and abdominal distention.
