Decadal Land Use Change Detection of Satna, Madhya Pradesh, India

This research examines the alterations in land use and land cover (LULC) that have transpired in Satna, Madhya Pradesh, India, during the last decade. We conducted a comprehensive analysis of the spatial and temporal dynamics of land use in the area using satellite images and Geographic Information System (GIS) techniques. The research region, characterized by diverse terrain and substantial economic activity, has seen major alterations due to urbanization, agricultural expansion, and infrastructural development. Images from Landsat, acquired in 2000, 2010, and 2020, were analyzed and classified to identify notable changes in land use patterns. Special emphasis was placed on categories including metropolitan regions, agricultural lands, forested areas, and aquatic environments. The results underscore the effects of rapid urbanization and evolving agricultural practices, indicating a significant expansion of urban areas with a reduction in agricultural land and forest cover. Nonetheless, the results indicate a reduction in forest cover. This research underscores the need of adopting sustainable land management strategies to achieve equilibrium between environmental protection and development. These results provide valuable insights for policymakers and stakeholders in the development and management of land resources in Satna and similar locations.
