Red Man Syndrome after Vancomycin Injection in an Infant: A Case Report
Aim and background: Vancomycin flushing syndrome (VFS) or red man syndrome (RMS) is a sequela following the rapid intravenous (IV) infusion of vancomycin, a tricyclic glycopeptide antibiotic.Case description: In this article, we have presented a postoperative case of a female child in our tertiary care hospital, who developed RMS after IV infusion of vancomycin hydrochloride. Conclusion:Based on the time relationship, and response following withdrawal of the drug, it is probable that vancomycin injection caused RMS in the patient.Clinical significance: Prompt identification of adverse drug reaction is extremely significant to prevent such cases of vancomycin infusion reactions in clinical practice.
