Optical Noise Reduction by Employing FWM in In-Line Optical Amplification

We develop a novel amplification technique to reduce inline noise generation. By adding OPA (FWM) in front of an EDFA, 5 dB on/off OSNR and 1dB net NF improvements are achieved with <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$>20 \text{dB}$</tex> net gain.

Abstract

We develop a novel amplification technique to reduce inline noise generation. By adding OPA (FWM) in front of an EDFA, 5 dB on/off OSNR and 1dB net NF improvements are achieved with <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$>20 \text{dB}$</tex> net gain.
