Development of Infiltrating Microneedle Arrays for Drug Delivery System of Biomacromolecules
We propose an infiltrating microneedle array (MNA) fabricated by chemically crosslinking chitosan (CS) derived materials with biocompatibility and biodegradability to release various liquid drugs sustainably. In general, MNAs that are harmless to remain in the body are fabricated from biocompatible and biodegradable materials containing drugs. These MNAs require drying during fabrication. Thus, MNAs are limited in the types and amounts of drugs to dry and minute. In this work, various liquid drugs are delivered sustainably through a mesh structure of MNAs formed by chemical crosslinking. Puncture marks and staining of chicken meat with food red ink as a drug model were observed, indicating the ability of MNAs to release a liquid drug model into the skin.
