Recent Progress on Multi-Core Fiber Amplifier

We present guidelines for achieving a 20 % reduction in power consumption compared to existing amplifiers, and demonstrate the applicability of bi-directional amplification using double-layered planar lightwave circuits for weakly coupled multi-core erbium-doped optical fiber amplifiers.
