Dielectric Resonator Antenna in a Shape of Horizontal Cylinder Placed on Conducting Surface
A dielectric resonator antenna is investigated numerically and experimentally. It is realized as a horizontal cylinder placed on a horizontal conducting plane, with circle-shaped metal contacts on the end faces of it. Such an antenna radiates into the upper hemisphere with a calculated gain of more than 6 dBi. The remarkable feature of the proposed antenna is its impedance self-adjusting to the impedance of the cable connected to it. Experimental measurements of the reflection coefficient of the antenna and its gain showed satisfactory agreement with calculated values.
